David Gourley has advised us  that a distinguished Old Bexleian, who was a contemporary of his, died last year, namely Anthony (Tony) Chapman OBE.  I was on friendly terms with him but did not stay in contact.   At first, as a sixth former, he said he didn’t want to go to university.  Nevertheless he became a distinguished academician who obtained a PhD in Philosophy and was Vice Chancellor of Cardiff Metropolitan University from 1998 until retiring in 2016.
